Richard I was King of England from 6 July 1189 until his death. He
was the third of five sons of King Henry II of England and Eleanor of
Aquitaine. He was known as Richard Cur de Lionor Richard the Lionheart
because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior.

rebellions in Poitou against his father. Richard was a central Christian
commander during the Third Crusade,
The traditional image of
Richard the Lion-heart, the second Plantagenet king of England, has come
to us through the centuries, as a glorious crusader and knight.
Captured by the Austrian emperor, he was later rescued by the young
troubadour Blondel who discover Richard when singing a famous ballade.
Richard
was called Lionheart at the beginning of the Third Crusade when Philip
of France was compared with a lamb and Richard with a lion. He convinced
his officers in Winchester, around the Round Table of have belonged
to king Arthurs legend and having the magic sword Excalibur.

was a generous knight and a wise politician, but above all a great
soldier. His own personal ability was a source of inspiration for his
men in battle
