The Cross of Santiago, is the emblem of the military/monastic order of Santiago (Santiaguista) also known as Order of Saint James of Compostela. The origin of this order was in the kingdom of Leon Spain in the 12th century. Their name comes from the patron saint of Spain, James the Greater, under whom protection Galicians' and Asturians' Christians started to fight the Muslims in Spain in the 9th century.
